Gateway Covers was an enterprising company in its day. They would wait for an historic sports

event to happen. Then proceed to get the envelopes stamped that day where the event took place.

They would then add the art work (cachet) and work a contract for the player to sign the pieces.

All First Day Covers measure 3,5" x 6.5" (unless noted) and are stored in 5" x 7" top loads.

his retirement from Baseball (long time player & coach). Signed (twice) by noted secretary

WIN CLARK (1875-1959) who played w/ the National League's Louisville franchise in

1897 alongside Honus Wagner. Other notable names on the letterhead are Lefty O'Doul,

Joe Cronin, Bill McKechnie, Casey Stengel, Clark Griffith, Muddy Ruel, Billy Southworth etc...
